ABOUT GRACE BAPTIST CHURCH

Grace began as an outreach to the south side of Des Moines by First Baptist Church of Des Moines. Its origins were Sunday afternoon Bible classes that started in 1925. Regular Sunday services began the following year at S.W. 9th and Herold. For several years the church was known as the Baptist Tabernacle. In 1939, the church became independent. The name was changed to Grace Baptist in 1945.

We are affiliated with C.B.A. (Conservative Baptist of America), a fellowship of more than 1100 churches united for the proclamation of the Good News of Jesus both in the United States and around the world.

The friendly, compassionate spirit of Grace has deep roots. From an article by L.P. Cassel, first pastor, written approximately 1941:

"Though it bears a denominational name, it has an open policy and uses the New Testament as its rule of faith and practice. A number of people from different denominations worship there regularly. Both pastor and church seek to render a community service."

    OUR PURPOSE STATEMENT

"Grace Baptist Church exists to attract and lead others to faith in Jesus Christ and to help them learn to live like Him."
